Job Description

Battelle is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Federal Staff Scientist to join our team in Henderson, NV. This role will involve conducting advanced scientific research and analysis in support of various federal contracts and projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading scientific investigations, designing experimental protocols, interpreting complex data, and preparing comprehensive reports and presentations for government clients. This position requires a strong background in a relevant scientific discipline, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment while adhering to federal guidelines and security protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to scientific research projects for federal agencies, ensuring adherence to project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Develop and execute experimental designs, data collection methodologies, and analytical approaches.
  • Conduct advanced data analysis, statistical modeling, and interpretation of complex scientific results.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and publications for internal stakeholders and federal clients.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and other scientists.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of scientific advancements and relevant federal regulations or guidelines.
  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and scientific rigor.
  • Ensure all research activities comply with safety protocols, ethical standards, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Participate in proposal development and grant writing activities to secure new federal research opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science, Materials Science)
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in scientific research, preferably supporting federal projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific report writing.
  • Proficiency with scientific software and analytical tools (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python, SAS, JMP, specialized laboratory software).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific federal agencies or research programs (e.g., DoD, DOE, EPA, NIH).
  • Familiarity with federal contracting requirements and reporting standards.
  • Project management experience, including managing budgets and timelines for scientific projects.
  • Experience with advanced analytical instrumentation or specialized laboratory techniques relevant to the field.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at national conferences.
  • Active U.S. government security clearance (e.g., Secret or Top Secret).
