Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Federal Staff Scientist to join our dynamic team in Gatineau, Quebec. This role involves contributing to critical scientific research and development projects primarily for federal government clients. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to manage projects from conceptualization through to implementation and reporting. You will work within an interdisciplinary team, applying your expertise to solve complex problems and contribute to policies and programs that benefit Canadians.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to scientific research projects, data analysis, and technical report writing.
• Develop and implement experimental designs, methodologies, and data collection protocols.
• Collaborate with federal government stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver scientific insights.
• Prepare and present research findings, technical reports, and policy recommendations to diverse audiences.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant scientific, ethical, and federal regulatory standards.
• Provide scientific guidance and mentorship to junior staff and project teams.
• Participate in grant proposals and funding applications for research initiatives.

Required Skills

• Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Data Science).
• Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or equivalent professional experience in a scientific research environment, preferably with federal government exposure.
• Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, statistical methods, and scientific software.
• Proven ability to manage complex scientific projects independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French (bilingualism is a strong asset).
• Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with advanced analytical techniques and instrumentation relevant to chosen scientific field.
• Familiarity with Government of Canada research priorities and policy frameworks.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in a consulting environment or on multidisciplinary teams.
• Record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences.
