Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our dynamic team in Brooklyn, NY. This critical role is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health regulations within our hospital facilities and associated properties. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. This position is open to qualified candidates requiring visa sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of hospital premises, food service areas, water systems, waste management, and other environmental health-related facilities.
- Investigate environmental health complaints, incidents, and outbreaks, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Develop and implement environmental health policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with hazardous waste disposal, infection control, and occupational health and safety standards.
- Collaborate with various hospital departments, regulatory agencies, and external partners on environmental health initiatives.
- Prepare detailed reports, maintain accurate records, and contribute to continuous improvement in environmental health practices.
- Provide expert advice on environmental health matters to management and staff.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning related to environmental health.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an Environmental Health Officer or in a similar role, preferably within a healthcare setting.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental health regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOHMH).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Professional certification (e.g., Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Sanitarian, CSP, CIH).
- Experience with hospital accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission).
- Prior experience in a large urban healthcare system.
