Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ecologist to join our dynamic Environmental Services team in Reno, Nevada. This critical role involves conducting ecological surveys, environmental impact assessments, and supporting regulatory compliance for a diverse range of projects across various sectors. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct field surveys for various biological resources, including vegetation, wildlife, and aquatic habitats.
  • Perform wetland delineations and prepare associated reports in accordance with USACE guidelines.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret ecological data using appropriate scientific methods and software.
  • Prepare technical reports, environmental assessments, and permit applications (e.g., NEPA, ESA, CWA Section 404/401) for regulatory agencies.
  • Assist project managers with project planning, scheduling, and budget management.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including engineers, planners, and other environmental specialists.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and best management practices.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on ecological issues to clients and project teams.
  • Participate in client meetings and regulatory agency consultations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in ecological consulting or environmental management.
  • Demonstrated experience with biological field surveys, habitat assessments, and wetland delineations.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for data mapping and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of federal environmental regulations, including NEPA, ESA, and CWA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client interaction.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various field conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for field assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant ecological discipline.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with flora and fauna of the Great Basin region.
  • Prior experience working on renewable energy, mining, or transportation projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with GPS/GNSS equipment and data collection.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff.
