Job Description

We are seeking highly experienced and distinguished legal professionals to serve as District Judges (Sheriffs) within the Scottish Courts. This is a pivotal role in the administration of justice, requiring exceptional legal acumen, integrity, and a profound commitment to public service. Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and direction to legal professionals and court staff involved in court proceedings.

Required Skills

• Extensive and distinguished experience practicing Scots Law, typically as a solicitor or advocate, demonstrating a deep understanding of its nuances.
• Profound knowledge of civil and criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and substantive Scots law.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, capable of dissecting complex legal issues.
• Demonstrated impartiality, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and fairness.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and engage effectively with all court participants.
• Proven ability to manage high-pressure situations, make decisive judgments under scrutiny, and maintain composure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience serving as a part-time Sheriff, Temporary Sheriff, or holding other judicial or quasi-judicial appointments.

• Leadership experience within the legal profession, academia, or other judicial settings, demonstrating an ability to guide and inspire.
