Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Disaster Preparedness Coordinator to join our team in Manchester. This pivotal role involves the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive disaster preparedness plans and strategies to ensure the safety and resilience of our operations and the communities we serve. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and establishing robust emergency response protocols. You will work collaboratively with various internal departments, external agencies, and stakeholders to build a strong culture of readiness and effective crisis management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and implement comprehensive disaster preparedness and response plans, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international standards.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential hazards and evaluate their impact on operations and personnel.
- Organise and facilitate regular emergency preparedness training sessions, workshops, and drills for staff and relevant stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with emergency services, government agencies, community groups, and other external partners.
- Manage and maintain emergency equipment and supplies, ensuring their readiness and accessibility.
- Coordinate post-incident reviews and analyses to identify lessons learned and implement continuous improvement measures for preparedness plans.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on preparedness status, incident responses, and training effectiveness for senior management.
- Advise management on best practices for business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and regulations in disaster preparedness and emergency management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in disaster preparedness, emergency management, or a related field (minimum 3 years).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and crisis management principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective training programmes.
- Proficiency in project management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions in critical situations.
- Familiarity with relevant national and international emergency management frameworks and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Certification in Emergency Management (e.g., CEM, PMP).
- Experience working within a large-scale organisation or government contractor setting.
- Knowledge of UK specific emergency planning regulations and infrastructure.
- First Aid and/or Incident Command certifications.
