Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic IT team in Harrisburg, PA. This role is critical to ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of PNC’s extensive database systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of data availability and reliability. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain database servers and systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Monitor database performance, implement tuning measures, and optimize queries to ensure efficient operation.
- Perform database backups, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Ensure database security, including user access management, role-based security, and data encryption.
- Implement and maintain database high availability solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn, RAC).
- Troubleshoot database issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
- Collaborate with development teams to design, implement, and optimize database schemas and queries.
- Develop and maintain documentation for database environments, configurations, and procedures.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies and best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical database support.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) in an enterprise environment.
- Expertise in at least one major relational database system (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server).
- Strong proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, or similar query languages.
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
- Solid understanding of database security principles and practices.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and replication strategies.
- Familiarity with operating systems such as Linux/Unix and Windows Server.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications in database administration (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, MCSA: SQL Server).
- Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
- Knowledge of ITIL framework and agile methodologies.
