Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Customs Broker to join our dynamic team in Tampa, Florida. This is a unique opportunity for a qualified professional who requires visa sponsorship to work in the United States. As a Customs Broker, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and compliant clearance of goods through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). You will play a critical role in facilitating international trade for our diverse client base, navigating complex customs regulations, and providing expert advice. The ideal candidate will possess a valid U.S. Customs Brokerage License and a deep understanding of import/export procedures, HTS classification, and other regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate customs entries for various commodities, ensuring compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
- Classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and determine appropriate valuation, duty rates, and taxes.
- Advise clients on import/export requirements, trade agreements, customs regulations, and best practices.
- Communicate effectively with clients, carriers, government agencies, and internal departments regarding shipment status and documentation.
- Monitor and manage the customs clearance process from start to finish, resolving any issues or delays proactively.
- Maintain detailed records of all customs transactions and ensure proper documentation is in place for auditing purposes.
- Stay current with changes in customs laws, regulations, and trade policies, and disseminate relevant information to clients and colleagues.
- Assist with post-entry amendments, protests, and other compliance-related activities.
- Utilize customs brokerage software and other internal systems efficiently.
Required Skills
- Valid U.S. Customs Brokerage License is mandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in customs brokerage or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, including HTS classification, valuation, and Free Trade Agreements.
- Proficiency in customs brokerage software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with specific customs software platforms (e.g., CargoWise, SAP GTS).
- Familiarity with other government agency (OGA) requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA).
- Multilingual abilities are a plus.
