Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Cryptologist to join our cutting-edge Security Engineering team. As a Cryptologist at Google, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and reviewing cryptographic protocols and systems that secure our products, infrastructure, and user data at an unparalleled scale. Your expertise will directly contribute to protecting the privacy and security of billions worldwide. This role involves deep dives into cryptographic research, practical application of advanced encryption techniques, and collaboration with various product teams to ensure robust security postures. You will work on challenges ranging from quantum-resistant cryptography to secure multi-party computation, contributing to the future of secure computing.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop advanced cryptographic algorithms and protocols for Google's products and infrastructure.
• Conduct security reviews and audits of existing cryptographic implementations, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending improvements.
• Research and evaluate emerging cryptographic techniques, including post-quantum cryptography, homomorphic encryption, and zero-knowledge proofs.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate cryptographic solutions into various Google services and applications.
• Provide expert guidance on cryptographic best practices, key management, and secure system design.
• Publish research findings and represent Google at top-tier security and cryptography conferences.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of cryptographic excellence within the team.

Required Skills

• Ph.D. in Cryptography, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in cryptographic research, design, or implementation.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., C++, Java, Python, Go) with a focus on secure coding practices.
• Deep understanding of modern cryptographic primitives, including symmetric and asymmetric encryption, hash functions, and digital signatures.
• Experience with cryptographic libraries and APIs (e.g., OpenSSL, BoringSSL, Tink).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Publications in top-tier cryptography conferences or journals (e.g., CRYPTO, EUROCRYPT, AsiaCrypt, CCS, S&P, USENIX Security).
• Experience with secure hardware, trusted execution environments, or quantum cryptography.
• Knowledge of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) and their cryptographic underpinnings.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and cloud security architectures.
• Experience with formal verification methods for cryptographic protocols.
