Job Description
IBM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cryptologist to join our cutting-edge cybersecurity team in Downtown Brampton, Ontario. As a Cryptologist, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and analyzing cryptographic systems and protocols to secure sensitive data and communications for our clients and internal systems. You will work on challenging problems, contributing to the development of next-generation security solutions and ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of information across various platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of cryptographic primitives, algorithms, and their practical applications, alongside a passion for research and innovation in the field of information security.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement advanced cryptographic algorithms and protocols for data encryption, authentication, and secure communication.
- Evaluate and analyze existing cryptographic systems for weaknesses and vulnerabilities, recommending and implementing improvements.
- Conduct research into new cryptographic techniques, post-quantum cryptography, and blockchain-based security solutions.
- Collaborate with software engineers and security architects to integrate cryptographic modules into larger systems and applications.
- Provide expert guidance on cryptographic best practices, standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain documentation for cryptographic designs, implementations, and usage guidelines.
- Participate in incident response activities related to cryptographic breaches or attacks.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in cryptography, quantum computing, and cybersecurity threats.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Cryptography, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in cryptography design, implementation, or analysis.
- Extensive knowledge of symmetric and asymmetric encryption, hashing, digital signatures, and key exchange protocols (e.g., AES, RSA, ECC, SHA-3).
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, or Go for cryptographic implementation.
- Strong understanding of number theory, abstract algebra, and computational complexity relevant to cryptography.
- Experience with cryptographic libraries and APIs (e.g., OpenSSL, Libsodium, Bouncy Castle).
- Familiarity with secure coding practices and common cryptographic vulnerabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hardware security modules (HSMs) and trusted execution environments (TEEs).
- Knowledge of post-quantum cryptography research and standardization efforts.
- Experience with blockchain technologies and decentralized security architectures.
- Publications in peer-reviewed cryptographic conferences or journals.
- Certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent.
- Experience working in an agile development environment.
