Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Conservation Officer to join our team in Naperville, IL. This critical role involves enforcing conservation laws, regulations, and company policies related to environmental protection and land management across Exelon’s properties and managed sites. The Conservation Officer will work to safeguard natural resources, prevent unauthorized activities, and educate the public on responsible environmental practices. This position requires strong judgment, communication skills, and a commitment to public safety and ecological integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated company properties and managed land areas to enforce environmental regulations, conservation laws, and company policies.
  • Investigate environmental violations, unauthorized access, poaching, dumping, and other illicit activities, documenting findings and preparing detailed reports.
  • Respond to incidents involving wildlife, natural resource damage, or public safety concerns, coordinating with internal teams and external agencies as needed.
  • Educate employees, contractors, and the public on conservation ethics, safety protocols, and regulations pertaining to our managed lands.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities and natural areas to ensure compliance with environmental permits and best management practices.
  • Participate in habitat restoration projects, wildlife surveys, and other conservation initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, investigations, and interactions.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment and vehicles safely.
  • Represent Exelon professionally in all interactions with the public, government agencies, and stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in law enforcement, park ranger services, or conservation enforcement.
  • Certified or certifiable as a Conservation Police Officer or equivalent in Illinois, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Proficiency in investigative techniques and report writing.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License and ability to operate company vehicles.
  • Physical ability to patrol rugged terrain, lift heavy objects, and perform duties in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GIS software and data collection technologies.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecological systems in Illinois.
  • Experience in environmental education or public outreach programs.
