Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and imaginative Concept Artist to join our award-winning studio in Burnaby, British Columbia. This is a unique opportunity for an artist to contribute to visually stunning and immersive worlds for our next-generation titles. As a Concept Artist, you will play a crucial role in the visual development of characters, environments, props, and visual effects, working closely with our art, design, and animation teams. Key Responsibilities
- Generate high-quality concept art including characters, creatures, environments, props, and vehicles that align with the project's artistic vision and technical requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with Art Directors, Designers, and other team members to translate abstract ideas and written descriptions into compelling visual representations.
- Produce a wide range of artwork, from initial sketches and mood boards to detailed production paintings and polished marketing illustrations.
- Maintain consistency in artistic style and quality across all assets, ensuring they contribute to a cohesive game world.
- Actively participate in critiques and feedback sessions, demonstrating flexibility and an open mind to iteration.
- Research and gather visual references to support concept development and maintain cultural accuracy and aesthetic appeal.
- Help define and communicate the visual language and style guide for various aspects of the game.
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and techniques to continuously improve personal and team artistic output.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Concept Artist in the video game or film industry.
- Exceptional foundational art skills, including drawing, painting, anatomy, perspective, light, and color theory.
- Proficiency with industry-standard digital painting software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Painter, ZBrush).
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling and ability to create atmospheric and evocative imagery.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- A portfolio demonstrating a strong range of conceptual work, creativity, and technical execution.
- Ability to adapt to different art styles and project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Fine Arts, Illustration, or a related field.
- Experience with 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender, ZBrush) for concepting and rapid prototyping.
- Prior experience working on AAA game titles or large-scale entertainment projects.
- Understanding of game development pipelines and technical constraints.
- Experience with environmental design, architectural illustration, or industrial design.
