Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Community Planning Specialist to join our team in Gulfport, MS. This role is crucial for driving sustainable growth and enhancing the quality of life within communities through strategic planning and development initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of urban planning principles, land use regulations, and community engagement strategies. You will work on a diverse range of projects, collaborating with local governments, community organizations, and stakeholders to develop comprehensive plans, master plans, and zoning ordinances that address the evolving needs of the region. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the development of comprehensive plans, master plans, and zoning ordinances.
• Conduct research, data analysis, and demographic studies to inform planning decisions.
• Facilitate community workshops, public meetings, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
• Prepare and present reports, presentations, and technical documents to clients and the public.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
• Provide expert advice and technical assistance on land use, urban design, and environmental planning matters.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, architects, and environmental scientists.
• Stay abreast of current planning trends, legislation, and best practices.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in urban or community planning.
• Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and planning-related software (e.g., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex planning concepts to diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Experience with public engagement and facilitation.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local planning regulations and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related field.
• AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification.
• Experience working with municipal governments or public agencies in Mississippi.
• Familiarity with coastal community planning challenges and resilience strategies.
