Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Community Planning Specialist to join our dynamic team in Swansea. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, contributing to the strategic development and sustainable growth of communities across Wales and beyond. You will be instrumental in conducting research, engaging with stakeholders, developing policy recommendations, and facilitating planning processes that balance economic, social, and environmental considerations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of UK planning policy and a passion for creating impactful, resilient communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on socio-economic, environmental, and spatial data to inform planning strategies.
  • Prepare and present reports, proposals, and policy recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and public bodies.
  • Facilitate community engagement events, workshops, and public consultations to gather diverse perspectives and build consensus.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including urban designers, environmental specialists, and transport planners.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of planning policies and projects.
  • Stay abreast of national and local planning policy changes and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in urban or community planning, preferably within the UK context.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for data analysis and mapping.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of sustainability principles and their application in planning.
  • Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Experience with public sector clients or large-scale community development projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and public consultation processes.
