Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our culinary team at Hilton Garden Inn Sunderland. This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring chef looking to develop their skills in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment. The successful candidate will support our senior chefs in preparing and cooking dishes, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and ensuring high standards of food quality. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior chefs in the preparation and cooking of various dishes across different sections of the kitchen (e.g., larder, hot section, pastry).
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in all kitchen areas, including equipment and utensils.
- Ensure proper storage of food items, adhering to food safety regulations and quality control.
- Monitor and manage inventory of ingredients, reporting shortages to the Head Chef.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, communicating effectively with colleagues.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and company policies.
- Learn and master new culinary techniques and recipes as guided by senior chefs.
- Assist with receiving and checking deliveries to ensure quality and quantity match invoices.
Required Skills
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen environment, ideally 6+ months.
- Basic understanding of culinary techniques and kitchen operations.
- A strong passion for food and cooking.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to high standards of hygiene and quality.
- Eligibility for a UK Skilled Worker Visa.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Professional Cookery or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in a hotel kitchen setting.
- Knowledge of various cooking methods and cuisines.
