Job Description

Jacobs is seeking an experienced and dynamic City Manager to oversee critical urban development projects and strategic initiatives within Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient execution of large-scale infrastructure, community, and operational projects, driving progress and sustainability for the city. The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between various stakeholders, including city officials, community groups, and our project teams, fostering collaborative environments to achieve shared objectives. This position requires a strong leader with exceptional project management skills, a deep understanding of urban planning and public administration, and a proven track record of successful project delivery in a complex environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of urban development projects from conception through completion, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for local government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders in Cedar Rapids, fostering strong relationships and effective communication.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for city-centric initiatives, aligning with both company objectives and community needs.
  • Oversee project teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of productivity and engagement.
  • Manage financial aspects of projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure smooth project progression.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports on project status, challenges, and successes to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and permitting requirements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project management, urban development, or public sector management.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting expertise.
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and public policy.
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., MPA, MBA, MUP).
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credential.
  • Experience working with or for municipal governments in the Midwest region.
  • Demonstrated success in community engagement and public relations.
