Job Description
As a Retail Buyer at Nordstrom, you will be instrumental in shaping our product assortments, driving sales, and enhancing the customer experience. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute buying strategies to achieve sales, gross margin, and inventory turn goals.
- Conduct in-depth market research, analyze sales trends, and monitor competitor activities to identify new opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with planning teams to forecast demand, manage inventory levels, and optimize product allocation.
- Work with visual merchandising and marketing teams to ensure effective product presentation and promotion.
- Evaluate product performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
- Travel to trade shows, vendor meetings, and store visits as required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and ethical standards in purchasing practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience in retail buying or a related merchandising role.
- Proven track record of achieving sales and profitability targets.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Excellent understanding of retail math and financial metrics.
- Proficiency in retail planning software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment.
- Experience with visa sponsorship processes is a plus but not a requirement for the candidate, rather it's for the company to provide.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field.
- Experience buying for a large-scale retail company.
- Knowledge of the Salt Lake City and surrounding Utah retail market.
