Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Moncton, New Brunswick. As a Building Surveyor, you will be instrumental in advising on property and construction matters, conducting comprehensive building surveys, and managing projects from inception to completion. This role requires a professional who is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and possesses strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed building surveys, inspections, and condition assessments for a variety of property types.
  • Diagnose building defects, identify causes, and provide expert advice on appropriate remedial works and maintenance strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, specifications, schedules of work, and contract documents for building projects.
  • Manage construction projects, overseeing design, procurement, and execution phases to ensure adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Advise clients on property law, building regulations, planning legislation, and health and safety matters.
  • Undertake dilapidation assessments, prepare schedules of dilapidations, and advise on party wall matters.
  • Provide professional advice on sustainable building practices, energy efficiency, and compliance with environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Evaluate existing building structures and systems, recommending improvements or modifications as necessary.
  • Contribute to business development activities by building client relationships and identifying new opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Building Surveyor.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting a full range of building surveys and defect analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian building codes, regulations, and construction standards.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and other relevant surveying tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional designation such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent.
  • Experience with sustainable building design and construction, including LEED or other green building certifications.
  • Familiarity with local planning policies and development processes in New Brunswick.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
