Job Description
AECOM is seeking a dedicated and experienced Building Control Officer to join our dynamic team in Manchester, New Hampshire. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough plan reviews for proposed construction projects to ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, zoning ordinances, and accessibility standards.
- Perform on-site inspections at various stages of construction (foundations, framing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, insulation, final) to verify adherence to approved plans and code requirements.
- Identify and document code violations, issuing corrective notices and ensuring timely resolution.
- Provide expert guidance and technical advice to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners regarding building code interpretations and compliance solutions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all plan reviews, inspections, and communications.
- Collaborate with other regulatory agencies and departments to facilitate project approvals and ensure integrated compliance.
- Stay updated on changes to national and local building codes, regulations, and best practices.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and present findings as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Building Control Officer, Building Inspector, or similar role.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of international and US national building codes (e.g., IBC, IRC, NEC, IPC, IMC) and local zoning ordinances.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites within the New Hampshire area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification (e.g., ICC certifications for Building Inspector, Plans Examiner, or combination).
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering or construction discipline.
- Experience with permit software and digital plan review systems.
- Previous experience working in a multinational or diverse regulatory environment.
- Experience with sustainable building practices and green building certifications (e.g., LEED).
