Job Description

Shared Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The successful candidate will play a critical role in performing complex laboratory analyses, interpreting results, and contributing to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of complex biomedical tests and analyses on patient samples (blood, tissue, urine, etc.) using automated and manual techniques.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Interpret and validate test results, ensuring accuracy, precision, and timely reporting.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory protocols, quality control procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new diagnostic methods and technologies.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to discuss results and provide expert consultation.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests performed, results obtained, and quality control measures.
  • Contribute to ongoing professional development, including training of junior staff and participation in scientific meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and accreditation requirements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience as a Biomedical Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Proficiency in a broad range of laboratory techniques (e.g., haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics).
  • Strong understanding of quality control and assurance principles in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or equivalent international certification recognized in Canada.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Previous experience working in a Canadian healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles in a laboratory setting.
  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
