Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aviation Safety Inspector to join our dedicated team. This critical role involves ensuring compliance with national and international aviation safety regulations across a range of operational areas. The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive inspections, audits, and investigations to identify potential hazards, recommend corrective actions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of aviation safety standards. You will work with various stakeholders, including airlines, airports, maintenance organisations, and air traffic service providers, to uphold the highest levels of safety and regulatory compliance within the UK aviation industry. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining public trust in air travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits and inspections of aircraft operators, maintenance organizations, and air traffic service providers.
- Investigate aviation incidents, accidents, and occurrences to determine root causes and contributing factors.
- Prepare detailed reports of findings, identify non-compliance, and issue recommendations for corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of safety management systems (SMS) and quality assurance programs.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to aviation stakeholders on regulatory requirements and best safety practices.
- Participate in the development and review of aviation safety policies, standards, and procedures.
- Collaborate with international aviation authorities on safety initiatives and regulatory harmonization.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation regulations, industry standards, and emerging safety technologies.
- Represent the CAA at industry meetings, conferences, and working groups as required.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience in aviation operations, maintenance, air traffic control, or a related safety-critical role.
- Thorough understanding of national (CAA) and international (EASA/ICAO) aviation safety regulations and standards.
- Proven ability to conduct effective audits, inspections, and investigations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data and identify safety trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in using IT systems and safety management software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel extensively within the UK and occasionally internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- A relevant degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Management, or a related technical field.
- Professional certification in aviation safety, auditing, or quality management.
- Experience with Safety Management System (SMS) implementation and oversight.
- Previous experience working for a regulatory body or an Approved Organisation (AO).
- Knowledge of human factors in aviation and risk assessment methodologies.
