Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Aviation Safety Inspector to join our team in New Haven, CT. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety across all aspects of our aviation operations, from manufacturing processes to maintenance protocols and flight operations. Your expertise will be vital in identifying potential hazards, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and contributing to a proactive safety culture within Sikorsky. This position requires a keen eye for detail, deep technical knowledge of aircraft systems, and a steadfast commitment to preventing accidents and incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of aircraft, components, maintenance records, and operational procedures to ensure compliance with FAA regulations, company standards, and industry best practices.
  • Investigate aviation incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures to enhance overall aviation safety.
  • Perform audits of internal departments and external suppliers to verify adherence to quality and safety management systems.
  • Provide expert guidance and training to personnel on safety regulations, operational procedures, and best practices.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, investigations, and safety recommendations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, maintenance, and flight operations teams to integrate safety considerations into all stages of product lifecycle and operations.
  • Stay current with evolving aviation regulations, safety standards, and technological advancements in the aerospace industry.

Required Skills

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation maintenance, inspection, or safety roles
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations (FARs), especially Part 21, 43, 65, and 145
  • Strong understanding of aircraft systems, structures, and propulsion
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills
  • Proficiency in technical report writing and data analysis
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Management, or a related field
  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA)
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) implementation and auditing
  • Prior experience with rotorcraft or complex aerospace manufacturing environments
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
