Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Baton Rouge refinery and chemical plant. This role involves designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining advanced automation and control systems that optimize our industrial processes, ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and reliability. The successful candidate will play a critical role in troubleshooting complex issues, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and implement Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Develop and maintain control strategies, logic, and HMI graphics for process automation.
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and resolution of automation system issues to minimize downtime.
- Participate in project planning, execution, and commissioning of new automation systems and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, industry best practices, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and implement process improvements.
- Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel on automation systems.
- Conduct system performance monitoring and optimization.
- Manage automation system documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, and configuration specifications.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in oil & gas, petrochemical, or a heavy process industry.
- Proficiency with DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion PKS, Yokogawa CENTUM VP).
- Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens).
- Strong understanding of process control principles, instrumentation, and control loops.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, and relevant safety guidelines.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design and implementation.
- Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles.
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and data analytics.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
- Experience with advanced process control (APC) techniques.
