Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Archivist to join our esteemed team, playing a crucial role in managing and preserving the University’s invaluable historical records and special collections. This is an exciting opportunity for an international candidate looking to establish a career in the UK, as comprehensive visa sponsorship will be provided. The successful applicant will be responsible for the full lifecycle of archival materials, from acquisition and cataloguing to preservation and accessibility, contributing to the academic and cultural mission of the University. Key Responsibilities

  • Catalogue, arrange, and describe archival collections in accordance with national and international standards.
  • Implement and monitor environmental controls for the long-term preservation of physical and digital archives.
  • Provide expert reference and research assistance to students, faculty, external researchers, and the public.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of digital preservation strategies and workflows.
  • Participate in outreach activities, including curating exhibitions, delivering presentations, and developing online content.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including data protection, copyright, and freedom of information acts.
  • Manage and supervise volunteers or junior staff, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
  • Contribute to the acquisition and appraisal of new collections, aligning with the University's collection development policy.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Archives and Records Management, Library Science, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years (36 months) of proven professional experience in an archival setting, including practical application of cataloguing and preservation principles.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of archival descriptive standards (e.g., ISAD(G), EAD, MARC).
  • Proficiency in using archival management software and databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Eligibility for visa sponsorship in the UK.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital asset management systems and digital preservation tools.
  • Familiarity with the higher education sector and its unique archival challenges and opportunities.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body, such as the Archives and Records Association (ARA).
  • Experience in developing and delivering archival outreach and engagement programs.
  • Knowledge of conservation best practices for a variety of media types.
