Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ammunition and Explosives Specialist to join our Idaho Falls team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and secure handling, storage, inspection, and disposal of various types of ammunition and explosive materials. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of relevant safety regulations, quality control standards, and best practices within the ordnance and defense industry. You will play a vital role in ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and the utmost safety for all activities involving explosive materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, store, issue, and manage inventory of all ammunition and explosive materials in accordance with established safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct detailed visual and functional inspections of munitions to identify defects, damage, or unauthorized alterations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all ammunition and explosives movements, including quantities, lot numbers, storage locations, and disposition.
- Operate specialized equipment for the handling, transportation, and segregation of explosive materials.
- Implement and enforce all safety procedures and regulations pertaining to ammunition and explosives, including hazard classification and emergency response plans.
- Participate in the planning and execution of controlled demolition or disposal operations for unserviceable or surplus ammunition.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior personnel on safe handling practices and regulatory compliance.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of tools and equipment used in ammunition handling and inspection.
- Report all discrepancies, incidents, or potential hazards to management immediately.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ammunition and explosives handling, storage, and management.
- In-depth knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) or equivalent regulations (e.g., DoD 6055.09-M, AFMAN 91-201) pertaining to explosives safety.
- Proficiency in inventory management systems and record-keeping for hazardous materials.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, safety data sheets (SDS), and schematics.
- Strong understanding of explosive hazard classifications and associated risks.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work in various environmental conditions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary security clearances.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Logistics, Engineering, Chemistry).
- Certification in Ammunition & Explosives Management or Hazardous Material Handling.
- Experience with pyrotechnics and specialized munition types.
- Prior military experience in an ordnance or EOD role.
