Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Air Traffic Control Specialist to join our operational team in Spokane, WA. This critical role involves managing air traffic within designated airspace to ensure the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of aircraft. The ideal candidate will possess an extensive understanding of air traffic control procedures, regulations, and equipment, coupled with exceptional decision-making abilities under pressure. You will be responsible for providing clear and concise instructions, monitoring aircraft movements, and coordinating with other air traffic facilities to prevent collisions and expedite traffic. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control air traffic within assigned airspace using radar and other sophisticated equipment.
  • Issue takeoff and landing clearances, taxi instructions, and other directives to pilots.
  • Provide essential information to pilots, including weather updates, runway conditions, and traffic advisories.
  • Coordinate aircraft movements with adjacent air traffic control facilities to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Respond to emergencies, provide assistance, and initiate search and rescue operations when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of air traffic and operational activities.
  • Adhere strictly to all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certifications and enhance skills.
  • Operate and troubleshoot various air traffic control systems and communication equipment.

Required Skills

  • FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) certificate or equivalent military qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Air Traffic Control Specialist.
  • Strong knowledge of air traffic control principles, regulations, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in radar and non-radar air traffic control techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to make rapid and accurate decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent spatial reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must pass all required medical and security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-density air traffic environment.
  • Familiarity with Spokane-area airspace and operational procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Air Traffic Control, or a related field.
  • Additional FAA ratings (e.g., Tower, TRACON, ARTCC) beyond basic certification.
  • Experience with advanced air traffic management systems and technologies.
