Job Description
We are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Government Economist to join our Public Sector consulting practice in Surrey, British Columbia. In this pivotal role, you will apply economic principles and quantitative methods to analyze complex public policy issues, program evaluations, and strategic initiatives for various government clients at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels. You will be instrumental in providing data-driven insights, forecasting economic trends, and developing robust economic models to support evidence-based decision-making. This position requires a deep understanding of public finance, regulatory economics, and socio-economic impact assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct economic research and analysis on public sector challenges and policy proposals.
- Develop and apply quantitative economic models for forecasting, cost-benefit analysis, and impact assessments.
- Evaluate the economic effectiveness and efficiency of government programs and policies.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and policy briefs for government clients and stakeholders.
- Provide expert economic advice and recommendations on public finance, taxation, and regulatory matters.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including policy analysts, data scientists, and subject matter experts.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior government officials and client executives.
- Stay abreast of current economic trends, government policies, and relevant research.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree or PhD in Economics, Public Policy, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Economist, preferably with significant public sector or government consulting experience.
- Strong proficiency in econometric analysis, statistical software (e.g., R, Python, Stata, SAS), and data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated ability to apply economic theory to real-world policy problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex economic concepts clearly.
- Proven experience in report writing, policy analysis, and presentation development.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CGE (Computable General Equilibrium) or input-output modeling.
- Familiarity with Canadian public policy landscape and government structures.
- Project management experience in a consulting setting.
- Professional designations or certifications related to economics or public finance.
