Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Fleet Manager to join our operations in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. This critical role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of our vehicle fleet, ensuring optimal performance, compliance, and cost-efficiency. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs, ensuring regulatory adherence, and leading a team to maintain the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive fleet maintenance programs to ensure all vehicles are safe, compliant, and operational.
  • Oversee vehicle procurement, registration, and disposal processes, including negotiating with suppliers and service providers.
  • Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics, including fuel consumption, vehicle utilization, and operational costs, implementing strategies for efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all UK transport legislation, HGV regulations, health and safety standards, and company policies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of drivers and support staff, fostering a culture of high performance, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate vehicle repairs, servicing, and inspections to minimize downtime and disruption to operational services.
  • Utilize advanced fleet management software to track vehicle performance, schedules, and maintenance records accurately.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on fleet performance, budget adherence, and compliance to senior management.
  • Manage accident reporting procedures, investigations, and resolutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments, such as operations and finance, to optimize logistics processes and achieve business objectives.
  • Implement sustainable practices within fleet operations, exploring opportunities for electric vehicles or alternative fuel technologies.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a Fleet Management role within a logistics or transportation environment.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and repair processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK transport law, HGV regulations, and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrable leadership and team management capabilities, with experience in staff motivation and development.
  • Proficiency in using fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and control operational costs effectively.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence (category B minimum).
  • Eligibility for visa sponsorship in the UK (the company will support the application process).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage (National or International).
  • Experience with telematics systems and advanced fleet tracking technologies.
  • Background in project management related to fleet modernization or efficiency projects.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience managing vendor relationships.
  • Experience with alternative fuel vehicles or sustainable transport solutions.
