Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Legal Advisor to join our Public Sector team in Vancouver. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive legal advice and support to various government bodies, public agencies, and crown corporations. This role involves navigating complex public law issues, drafting legal documents, interpreting legislation, and representing clients in a variety of forums. You will be instrumental in guiding our public sector clients through regulatory challenges, policy development, and operational matters, ensuring compliance and effective governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on public law matters, including administrative law, constitutional law, regulatory compliance, and procurement.
- Draft and review complex legal opinions, contracts, policies, legislation, and other legal documents for public sector clients.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support client needs and advise on emerging legal trends.
- Represent clients in negotiations, administrative tribunals, and court proceedings as required.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver integrated legal solutions.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the public sector and advise clients on potential impacts.
- Assist in the development and implementation of compliance programs and risk management strategies.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or LL.B. degree from an accredited law school.
- Called to the Bar in British Columbia and a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-call experience practicing public law or advising public sector entities.
- Demonstrated expertise in administrative law, constitutional law, and regulatory frameworks.
- Exceptional legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
- Proven ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Laws (LL.M.) with a focus on public law or administrative law.
- Experience working directly within a government legal department or a law firm with a dedicated public sector practice.
- Familiarity with public sector procurement processes and related legal challenges.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
