Job Description
Target Corporation is seeking a passionate and innovative Fashion Designer to join our dynamic Apparel Design team. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented designer to contribute to our beloved private label brands, creating compelling and on-trend apparel that resonates with our diverse guest base. You will be instrumental in all stages of the design process, from concept development and sketching to fabric selection and garment specifications. Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design, and develop new apparel styles for assigned categories, ensuring alignment with brand aesthetic, market trends, and target guest.
- Conduct comprehensive trend research, market analysis, and competitive shopping to identify key fashion directions, materials, and color palettes.
- Create detailed sketches (hand and digital) and technical flats, ensuring clear communication of design intent.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including merchandising, product development, sourcing, and technical design to bring concepts to production.
- Prepare and present design boards, collections, and seasonal narratives to internal stakeholders.
- Select and approve fabrics, trims, and embellishments, considering quality, cost, and sustainability.
- Participate in fitting sessions, providing precise feedback for garment construction and fit adjustments.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, new technologies, and sustainable design initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in apparel design, preferably within a retail or brand environment.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional design sensibility, creativity, and technical proficiency.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other relevant design software (e.g., CLO3D, Browzwear).
- Excellent understanding of garment construction, textiles, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to translate trends into commercially viable designs.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing for a large-scale retailer or private label brand.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and materials.
- Experience with 3D design software for prototyping and visualization.
- Understanding of diverse body types and inclusive design principles.
