Job Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physicist to join our cutting-edge research and development team in Baltimore, Maryland. In this role, you will apply fundamental principles of physics to design, analyze, and develop advanced systems and technologies for a variety of defense and aerospace applications. You will be responsible for conducting theoretical analysis, experimental design, data interpretation, and providing technical leadership on complex projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical modeling and simulation of physical phenomena relevant to sensor systems, electromagnetics, optics, and materials science.
  • Design and execute experiments to validate models and characterize system performance.
  • Analyze complex data sets, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Develop innovative concepts and solutions for challenging technical problems.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications for internal and external audiences.

  • Stay current with advancements in relevant scientific and technological fields.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong foundation in classical and quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++).
  • Experience with experimental design, setup, and data acquisition.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform rigorous theoretical analysis and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eligibility for U.S. Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral research experience or 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: quantum computing, laser physics, materials science, semiconductor physics, plasma physics, or signal processing.
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation software (e.g., HFSS, CST).
  • Prior experience working on government contracts or defense-related projects.
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance.
