Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Zoologist to join our research and conservation team at the National Wildlife Federation’s Rocky Mountain Regional Center in Boulder, CO. This role is crucial for our ongoing efforts to understand, protect, and restore wildlife populations and their habitats in the Western United States. The successful candidate will conduct field research, analyze data, and contribute to conservation strategies aimed at addressing challenges such as climate change, habitat fragmentation, and human-wildlife conflict. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement field studies to monitor wildlife populations, behavior, and ecological interactions.
- Collect, organize, and analyze biological data using statistical software and geospatial tools (GIS).
- Prepare comprehensive scientific reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations for various audiences.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, government agencies, and local communities on conservation projects.
- Develop and apply methodologies for wildlife habitat assessment and restoration.
- Contribute to grant proposals and fundraising efforts to secure project funding.
- Mentor junior researchers and interns as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant research permits and ethical guidelines.
- Communicate scientific findings to policy makers and the public to inform conservation action.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral or professional experience in wildlife research or conservation.
- Proven expertise in designing and conducting field studies on terrestrial or aquatic vertebrates.
- Strong statistical analysis skills and proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA).
- Demonstrated proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis and mapping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of scientific publications and presentations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to conduct fieldwork in remote and challenging conditions.

- Experience with advanced modeling techniques (e.g., population dynamics, species distribution modeling).
- Familiarity with wildlife policy and conservation legislation in the United States.
