Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical medical physics duties related to radiation oncology, including treatment planning, dosimetry, and quality assurance for various treatment modalities (e.g., external beam, brachytherapy).
  • Ensure the safe operation and accurate calibration of radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators, CT simulators, and other treatment delivery systems.
  • Develop and implement new clinical techniques and technologies in collaboration with radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, and other medical professionals.
  • Participate in the departmental quality improvement program, including regular equipment commissioning, acceptance testing, and preventative maintenance.
  • Contribute to clinical research projects, protocol development, and manuscript preparation.
  • Provide expert consultation on radiation safety and regulatory compliance within the department.
  • Mentor and supervise medical physics residents and students, contributing to their professional development.

Required Skills

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP-accredited program.
  • Eligibility for or certification by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (MCCPM) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-residency clinical experience in medical physics, preferably in radiation oncology.
  • Profound knowledge of radiation safety principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Medical Physics.
  • Current certification by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (MCCPM).
  • Experience with advanced treatment planning systems (e.g., Varian Eclipse, RayStation) and linear accelerator platforms (e.g., Varian, Elekta).
  • A track record of research contributions and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in commissioning new equipment and developing new clinical protocols.
