Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Federal Protective Service Officer to join our team in Brandon, MB. In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing security services and protecting federal assets, personnel, and information within designated federal facilities. This position requires exceptional observational skills, adherence to strict protocols, and the ability to respond effectively to security incidents. As a Federal Protective Service Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining order, deterring criminal activity, and ensuring the safety and operational continuity of government operations. This is an on-site position demanding a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to public service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated federal facilities on foot and/or by vehicle to detect and deter security threats.
  • Monitor surveillance equipment, access control systems, and alarms to identify potential security breaches.
  • Control access to federal properties, verifying credentials and managing visitor entry and exit.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to security incidents, emergencies, and alarms, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, and suspicious activities.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of security incidents, prepare detailed reports, and provide evidence as required.
  • Enforce federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
  • Liaise with law enforcement, emergency services, and facility management as needed.
  • Provide clear and concise communication to staff, visitors, and emergency personnel during incidents.
  • Perform routine security checks, inspect property for damage or hazards, and report findings.
  • Administer first aid or CPR as necessary until professional medical help arrives.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
  • Valid provincial Security Guard License.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
  • Clean criminal record check and ability to obtain/maintain a federal security clearance.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties including prolonged standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic environments.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Criminology, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
  • Experience with federal security protocols and regulations.
  • Training in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of alarm systems and CCTV operations.
  • Familiarity with the local Brandon area and federal facilities.
