Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Emergency Management Specialist to join our dedicated team at UF Health Jacksonville. This critical role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive emergency preparedness and response programs across our healthcare system. The ideal candidate will ensure our facilities, staff, and patients are well-prepared for any natural disaster, public health emergency, or other critical incidents. This position requires a proactive approach to risk assessment, planning, training, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to safeguard our operations and maintain continuity of care during emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and update emergency operations plans, policies, and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as healthcare accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Conduct hazard vulnerability analyses (HVA) and risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities to the healthcare system.
  • Design and implement emergency preparedness training programs, drills, and exercises for staff at all levels, ensuring a high state of readiness.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., Security, Facilities, Clinical Services) and external agencies (e.g., local emergency management, public health, law enforcement) on emergency planning and response activities.
  • Manage and maintain emergency equipment, supplies, and designated command centers.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact during actual emergency activations, providing support and guidance to incident command.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices in emergency management to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on emergency incidents, drills, and program effectiveness.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in emergency management, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Proven knowledge of FEMA's National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission Emergency Management standards and CMS Conditions of Participation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation or other relevant professional certifications (e.g., CHEP, CBCP).
  • Experience with healthcare-specific emergency preparedness software or systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in fast-paced environments during emergencies.
