Job Description

Stantec is seeking a skilled and experienced Land Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Huntsville, Alabama. You will be responsible for performing complex land surveying tasks, managing field crews, processing data, and preparing high-quality survey documents. Key Responsibilities

• Manage and execute various types of land surveys including boundary, topographic, ALTA/ACSM, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
• Lead and supervise survey field crews, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.
• Process raw field data, perform calculations, and prepare survey drawings, plats, and legal descriptions using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other specialized software.
• Research and analyze survey records, land titles, and other relevant documents to determine boundary lines and property ownership.
• Prepare and review survey plats, metes and bounds descriptions, and other survey deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
• Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and scanning technologies.
• Ensure all surveying activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in land surveying.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar surveying software.
• Demonstrated experience with modern surveying equipment (GPS, Total Stations, Laser Scanners).
• Strong understanding of survey principles, legal descriptions, and boundary law.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both office and field environments.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure or EIT/LSIT certification.
• Experience with 3D laser scanning and point cloud processing.
• Knowledge of local Alabama surveying standards and regulations.
• Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with GIS applications.
