Job Description
Stantec is seeking a skilled and experienced Land Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Huntsville, Alabama. As a Land Surveyor, you will be instrumental in a variety of projects, including commercial developments, public infrastructure, and environmental initiatives. You will be responsible for performing complex land surveying tasks, managing field crews, processing data, and preparing high-quality survey documents. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute various types of land surveys including boundary, topographic, ALTA/ACSM, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Lead and supervise survey field crews, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Process raw field data, perform calculations, and prepare survey drawings, plats, and legal descriptions using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other specialized software.
- Research and analyze survey records, land titles, and other relevant documents to determine boundary lines and property ownership.
- Prepare and review survey plats, metes and bounds descriptions, and other survey deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and scanning technologies.
- Ensure all surveying activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in land surveying.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar surveying software.
- Demonstrated experience with modern surveying equipment (GPS, Total Stations, Laser Scanners).
- Strong understanding of survey principles, legal descriptions, and boundary law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both office and field environments.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure or EIT/LSIT certification.
- Experience with 3D laser scanning and point cloud processing.
- Knowledge of local Alabama surveying standards and regulations.
- Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with GIS applications.
