Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Radiation Therapist to join our esteemed Oncology team in Detroit, Michigan. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist, ensuring accuracy and patient safety. This vital role involves precise treatment delivery, patient monitoring, and maintaining detailed records. Key Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed radiation therapy treatments with precision and accuracy, adhering to established protocols and safety standards.
- Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators, ensuring proper functioning and calibration.
- Monitor patients during treatment for any adverse reactions and provide immediate assistance as needed.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on treatment units and imaging systems.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient treatment records, including daily setup, dose delivery, and imaging information.
- Collaborate with the radiation oncology team (physicists, dosimetrists, oncologists, nurses) to optimize patient care plans.
- Educate patients and their families about treatment procedures, potential side effects, and self-care techniques.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, infection control policies, and departmental procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in radiation therapy.
- Assist in the preparation of treatment rooms and patient positioning for optimal treatment delivery.
Required Skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy.
- Current certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy (R.T.(T)).
- Current state licensure as a Radiation Therapist in Michigan or eligibility to obtain.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist.
- Proficiency in operating various radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators and treatment planning systems.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety principles and patient care protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Ability to work accurately and meticulously in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
- Eligibility for visa sponsorship for international candidates.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced treatment modalities such as IMRT, SBRT, and VMAT.
- Prior experience in an academic medical center or large hospital system.
