Job Description
Packaging Corporation of America is actively seeking dedicated and skilled Forestry Workers to join our land management teams. This is a unique opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute to sustainable forestry practices in the United States, with comprehensive visa sponsorship provided for eligible international candidates. As a Forestry Worker, you will play a crucial role in the management, cultivation, and harvesting of timber resources, contributing to both our operational success and environmental stewardship. You will work outdoors in various weather conditions, performing a range of physical tasks essential to forest health and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in tree planting, thinning, pruning, and other silvicultural operations.
- Operate and maintain a variety of forestry equipment, including chainsaws, brush cutters, and ATVs.
- Assist with timber harvesting operations, including felling, limbing, and bucking.
- Conduct forest inventory and data collection, including tree measurements and mapping.
- Implement pest and disease control measures to protect forest health.
- Construct and maintain forest roads, trails, and fire breaks.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Perform general maintenance on tools and equipment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable experience in forestry, logging, or agricultural field work.
- Ability to operate and maintain forestry-related hand tools and small machinery.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in challenging terrain and weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of forest ecology and sustainable forestry principles.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all operational guidelines.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in chainsaw operation and safety.
- Experience with GPS and GIS systems for mapping and data collection.
- Previous experience operating heavy forestry equipment (e.g., skidders, feller bunchers).
- Vocational training or a degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret topographic maps.
