Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Patent Examiner to join our Intellectual Property legal team in Boise, Idaho. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing patent applications, conducting prior art searches, and evaluating the novelty and non-obviousness of inventions related to our cutting-edge memory and storage technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically adept individual with a strong understanding of patent law to contribute to protecting Micron’s innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate complex patent applications for compliance with patentability requirements.
- Perform comprehensive prior art searches using various databases and resources to determine the novelty and non-obviousness of claimed inventions.
- Formulate and articulate clear and concise office actions, including rejections and objections, supported by relevant legal arguments and prior art.
- Communicate effectively with patent attorneys and inventors to clarify technical details and legal positions.
- Maintain accurate records of examination proceedings and decisions.
- Stay current with developments in patent law, intellectual property trends, and relevant technological fields.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent examination, patent prosecution, or intellectual property law.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with an ability to understand complex technical concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in conducting thorough prior art searches using patent databases.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or significant coursework in intellectual property law.
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Experience with semiconductor memory technologies (DRAM, NAND, NOR).
- Familiarity with international patent systems (e.g., PCT, EPO).
