Job Description
MultiCare Health System is seeking a dedicated and experienced Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) to join our occupational health team in Spokane, Washington. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive medical examinations for pilots, air traffic controllers, and other aviation personnel in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of aviation medicine, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and health of those who work in the aviation industry. You will play a crucial role in evaluating medical fitness, providing expert guidance, and collaborating with our integrated healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform FAA medical certificate examinations (Class 1, 2, and 3) for pilots and air traffic controllers.
- Evaluate medical histories, conduct physical examinations, and interpret diagnostic tests (ECG, audiometry, vision screening, lab work) in accordance with FAA standards.
- Document findings thoroughly and accurately in the FAA's MEDXPRESS system.
- Provide guidance to aviation personnel regarding medical requirements, waivers, and special considerations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FAA regulations, policies, and medical certification guidelines.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers within MultiCare to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and AME training programs.
- Ensure strict adherence to patient confidentiality and ethical medical practices.
Required Skills
- Current FAA Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) certification (all classes preferred).
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or Aerospace Medicine.
- Active, unrestricted medical license in the State of Washington.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience post-residency.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and FAA's MEDXPRESS system.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working within an occupational health setting.
- Advanced training or a Master's degree in Public Health or Aerospace Medicine.
- Pilot license or strong familiarity with aviation operations and culture.
