Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our dynamic team, focusing on advanced materials research for public sector applications. This role involves contributing to groundbreaking projects, often in collaboration with government laboratories and agencies. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing and executing experiments, analysing complex data, and publishing findings in high-impact journals. You will work within state-of-the-art facilities, applying your expertise to develop novel materials with applications ranging from defence and security to sustainable technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and conduct experimental research in advanced materials science.
• Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, ensuring high standards of safety and data integrity.
• Collect, process, and analyse complex scientific data using appropriate software and statistical methods.
• Prepare comprehensive research reports, technical documents, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present at national and international conferences.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including academic colleagues, industry partners, and government scientists.
• Contribute to the preparation of grant applications and funding proposals.
• Mentor junior researchers and students, fostering a collaborative and supportive research environment.

Required Skills

• PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in experimental materials research, including synthesis, characterization, and testing.
• Proficiency with advanced analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, spectroscopy).
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, with experience in statistical software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a track record of scientific publications.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
• Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and a meticulous approach to research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field.
• Experience working on government-funded projects or with public sector organizations.
• Familiarity with specific materials classes relevant to defence, security, or energy applications.
• Experience in grant writing and project management.
