Job Description
Join Northrop Grumman as a Machinist Apprentice and embark on a rewarding career in precision manufacturing. This apprenticeship program is designed to provide comprehensive training in machining, enabling you to develop expertise in operating various machine tools, interpreting blueprints, and producing high-quality components for aerospace and defense applications. You will work alongside experienced machinists, learning hands-on skills in a dynamic production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn to set up, operate, and maintain conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.) under supervision.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Measure and inspect finished parts for conformity to specifications using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Perform basic machine adjustments and troubleshooting.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in classroom instruction and practical training sessions as required by the apprenticeship program.
- Collaborate with team members and mentors to enhance machining skills and knowledge.
- Document work processes and maintain accurate records.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to learn and commit to a multi-year apprenticeship program.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of high school shop classes or vocational technical training.
- Prior experience with hand tools or basic manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading.
- Basic computer literacy.
