Job Description

Gannett is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Investigative Journalist to join our dynamic news team in Reno, Nevada. This role focuses on uncovering significant global affairs stories that impact local communities and a broader international audience. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, a relentless pursuit of truth, and the ability to conduct in-depth research and interviews across various cultures and political landscapes. Key Responsibilities

• Proactively identify, pitch, and develop compelling investigative stories with global relevance.
• Conduct extensive research, including data analysis, public record requests, and source development.
• Perform in-depth interviews with diverse sources, often in sensitive or high-stakes situations.
• Write clear, concise, and impactful journalistic pieces that adhere to the highest ethical standards.
• Collaborate with editors, photographers, videographers, and data journalists to produce multimedia content.
• Stay abreast of international events, geopolitical shifts, and emerging global trends.
• Ensure accuracy, fairness, and balance in all reporting.
• Travel as needed for research, interviews, and story development (both domestic and international).

Required Skills

• Proven experience in investigative journalism or long-form reporting.
• Exceptional research and analytical skills.
• Strong interviewing and communication abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python) for journalistic purposes.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Deep understanding of journalistic ethics and best practices.
• Portfolio of published investigative work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in one or more foreign languages relevant to global affairs (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, French).
• Master's degree in Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
• Experience working in diverse cultural environments.
• Familiarity with international law and human rights issues.
• Experience with digital storytelling tools and platforms.
