Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Lighting Technician to join our dynamic production team in Oakland, CA. This role is crucial for ensuring the high-quality execution of lighting designs for a diverse range of live events, including concerts, theatrical productions, and corporate gatherings. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of lighting equipment, DMX control, and a proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced live environments. Key Responsibilities
- Execute lighting designs according to production specifications and artistic vision.
- Operate and program lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Hog4) during rehearsals and live performances.
- Set up, rig, focus, and maintain a variety of lighting fixtures, including moving lights, conventional fixtures, and LED technology.
- Troubleshoot and repair lighting equipment and systems on-site as needed.
- Collaborate closely with lighting designers, stage managers, and other technical crew members.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all lighting equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
- Assist with equipment inventory, maintenance schedules, and preparation for future events.
- Stay current with new lighting technologies and techniques.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Lighting Technician in live event production.
- Proficiency in operating and programming professional lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Hog4).
- Strong knowledge of DMX, Art-Net, and other lighting control protocols.
- Experience with various lighting fixtures, including intelligent lights, LED fixtures, and conventional fixtures.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for lighting systems and equipment.
- Familiarity with rigging techniques and safe working practices at height.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in Technical Theatre, Lighting Design, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software for lighting design (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD).
- Certification in rigging or aerial lift operation.
- Knowledge of video integration with lighting systems.
- Prior experience working in large-scale concert venues or touring productions.
