Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Firmware Engineer to join our innovative R&D team in Brandon, Manitoba. This is a unique opportunity for a talented engineer who is passionate about embedded systems and precision agriculture. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and testing firmware for cutting-edge agricultural machinery, contributing directly to products that shape the future of farming. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement robust and efficient firmware for embedded systems in agricultural equipment.
- Debug, test, and validate firmware on hardware, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Write clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, test plans, and release notes.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural discussions, and drive continuous improvement of engineering processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex firmware issues, providing support to manufacturing and field service teams.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in embedded systems and agricultural technology.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in firmware development for embedded systems.
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming for microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, PIC, AVR).
- Strong understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) concepts and application.
- Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet.
- Familiarity with hardware-software integration, debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), and version control systems (Git).
- Ability to read schematics and datasheets.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Experience with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 25119, ISO 26262).
- Knowledge of agricultural machinery or heavy equipment control systems.
- Experience with model-based design and code generation (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
- Familiarity with wireless communication protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa).
