Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Crown Prosecutor to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for prosecuting felony criminal cases, including conducting trials, managing grand jury proceedings, engaging in plea negotiations, and providing legal guidance to law enforcement. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Kentucky criminal law, exceptional litigation skills, and a steadfast commitment to public service and ethical practice. This is an on-site position based in Louisville, Kentucky, offering a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to the justice system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload of felony criminal offenses from indictment through sentencing.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare legal documents, including motions, briefs, and indictments.
  • Represent the Commonwealth in grand jury proceedings, preliminary hearings, motion hearings, and jury trials.
  • Engage in effective plea negotiations with defense counsel to achieve just outcomes.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to local law enforcement agencies.
  • Interview witnesses, victims, and law enforcement officers to gather evidence and prepare for trial.
  • Advocate for victims' rights throughout the judicial process.
  • Stay abreast of developments in criminal law and procedure.

Required Skills

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Kentucky Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a prosecuting attorney or in complex criminal litigation.
  • Proven trial experience with a strong record of successful litigation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in legal research software and case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with juvenile justice or specialized courts.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages common in the community.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a legal setting.
  • Participation in legal aid or pro bono activities.
