Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Natural Resources Manager to join our team in Burlington, Vermont. This role involves leading and managing a variety of natural resource projects, including ecological assessments, permitting, restoration, and land management planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing project execution, managing client relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mentoring junior staff. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant environmental initiatives across Vermont and the surrounding region, working with diverse stakeholders including state agencies, private landowners, and NGOs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead complex natural resource projects from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Conduct and oversee ecological field surveys, wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and threatened and endangered species surveys.
  • Prepare comprehensive environmental reports, permit applications (e.g., Act 250, Army Corps of Engineers, state permits), and regulatory compliance documents.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identifying new business opportunities and preparing compelling proposals.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in areas such as wetland science, soil science, botany, wildlife biology, and aquatic ecology.
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations and company safety standards.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across various Tetra Tech offices and service lines.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in natural resources management or environmental consulting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Wetland Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, including scope, schedule, and budget control.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Vermont state environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Act 250, Vermont Wetland Rules).
  • Proficiency in wetland delineation methodologies and plant identification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with GIS software for data analysis and mapping.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific field.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with NEPA documentation and permitting.
  • Familiarity with Vermont's specific ecosystems and conservation priorities.
  • Strong network of professional contacts within the Vermont environmental community.
  • Experience with business development and proposal writing.
