Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Genetic Counselor to join our esteemed clinical team in Manchester. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive genetic counseling services, including risk assessment, education, and psychological support to individuals and families facing genetic conditions. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to patient care pathways and supporting our mission to deliver exceptional healthcare outcomes. Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients and their families, including risk assessment, pedigree analysis, and interpretation of genetic test results.
• Educate patients about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, testing options, and available management strategies.
• Offer psychological support and counseling to help patients and families cope with the implications of genetic diagnoses.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, and support staff to ensure integrated patient care.
• Participate in case conferences, clinical meetings, and contribute to the development of patient care protocols.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
• Stay current with advancements in genetics and genomic medicine through continuing professional development.
• Contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives and clinical research where appropriate.

Required Skills

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.
• Board-certified or board-eligible as a Genetic Counselor (e.g., ABGC, GCRB).
• Proven clinical experience in genetic counseling.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex genetic information clearly and empathetically.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and ethical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification clinical experience.
• Experience with a diverse patient population and a range of genetic conditions.
• Familiarity with UK healthcare systems and regulations.
• Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local population.
• Active participation in professional genetic counseling organizations.
