Job Description

Salesforce is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Public Affairs Officer to join our dynamic team in the Financial District of San Francisco. In this critical role, you will be responsible for managing and enhancing Salesforce’s reputation and relationships with government officials, industry associations, NGOs, and other key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of public policy, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of influencing public opinion and policy outcomes. This position plays a vital role in shaping the narrative around Salesforce’s contributions to the economy, technology landscape, and community, ensuring our values and initiatives are effectively communicated and understood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive public affairs strategies to advance Salesforce’s policy priorities and corporate objectives.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at local, state, and federal levels, assessing their potential impact on the company.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key government officials, policymakers, and their staff.
  • Represent Salesforce in meetings, hearings, and industry events, advocating for the company’s positions.
  • Prepare compelling communications materials, including policy briefs, press releases, presentations, and speeches.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, communications, and government affairs, to ensure alignment on messaging and strategy.
  • Manage external consultants, lobbyists, and trade associations as needed to support public affairs initiatives.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on public policy issues and their implications.
  • Respond to media inquiries and manage public perception on sensitive issues.
  • Lead crisis communications efforts related to public policy or government relations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, public policy, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with government officials and navigating complex legislative environments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in drafting policy papers, advocacy materials, and public statements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Law, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience within the technology sector or working for a large global corporation.
  • Familiarity with San Francisco and California state legislative processes and key policy issues.
  • Experience in crisis management and reputation protection.
