Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Equestrian Groom / Stable Hand to join our team at Stag Lodge Stables. This role is crucial to the daily care and well-being of our horses, ensuring they are healthy, happy, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for horses, strong work ethic, and a proactive approach to stable management. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily mucking out, bedding down, and general stable cleaning to the highest standards.
  • Prepare and administer feeds according to individual horse requirements and dietary plans.
  • Turn out and bring in horses from paddocks safely and efficiently.
  • Groom, tack up, and untack horses for lessons and rides.
  • Monitor horse health and well-being, reporting any concerns to senior staff immediately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tack room, feed room, and other stable areas.
  • Assist with basic first aid for horses as needed.
  • Support the riding instructors and management with various stable duties.
  • Ensure the safety of horses, clients, and visitors at all times.
  • Participate in yard maintenance tasks as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in horse care and stable management.
  • Ability to handle horses safely and confidently.
  • Strong understanding of horse welfare and basic equine first aid.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to perform demanding stable duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BHS Stage 1 or equivalent equestrian qualification.
  • Experience with a variety of horse breeds and temperaments.
  • Previous experience working in a professional riding school or livery yard.
  • Basic riding skills for exercising horses (not essential but advantageous).
